On 10 January, CIMC Enric Holdings Limited (hereinafter referred to as “CIMC Enric”, stock code: 3899.HK) announced that CIMC Blue Water Technology Development (Guangdong) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “CIMC Blue Water”), one of members of CIMC Enric, delivered 29 LNG-powered vessels on the basis of oil-powered vessels to Zhuhai Port SHIPPING Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Zhuhai Port Holdings Group Co., Ltd.. It was told that the number of LNG-powered vessels delivered this time represents the largest number of LNG-powered vessels under a single delivery in China, and these vessels are important demonstration results achieved by CIMC Enric in the “Conversion from Oil-powered Vessels into LNG-powered Vessels for the Pearl River” project in Guangdong Province.
In August 2022, Guangdong Province issued the Implementation Plan for Promoting the Development of Multimodal Transport in Guangdong Province to Optimize and Adjust the Transport Structure. According to the plan, the province will turn the equipment and facilities into more green ones, build the first 50 LNG-powered vessels and transform 300 oil-powered vessels into LNG-powered vessels.
CIMC Enric has completed the conversion of 78 oil-fueled vessels into LNG-fueled vessels and those vessels have been delivered. At the beginning of 2023, CIMC Enric will deliver another 15 LNG-fuelled vessels to customers.
CIMC Enric has completed the switching of fuel from oil to LNG for the first batch of vessels in Zhaoqing, Zhongshan and Qingyuan, Guangdong Province, to help speed up the “Conversion from Oil-powered Vessels into LNG-powered Vessels” project in Guangdong Province. In terms of gas emissions, the power system and relevant equipment designed by CIMC Enric can produce nearly zero pollution with its nationwide leading technologies, which can save fuel while achieving the goal of energy conservation and emission reduction for customers, further enhancing the cost effectiveness and market competitiveness of vessel operation.
Relevant scientific research has shown that replacing traditional marine fuel with natural gas can reduce carbon emissions by more than 20% and particulate matter emissions by more than 90% with zero sulfur oxide emissions, therefore relevant environmental protection advantages of natural gas can meet the needs of green development of shipping. By 2025, Guangdong will convert 1,500 oil-fueled vessels into LNG-fueled vessels for inland river shipping. In September 2022, five ministries and commissions of China jointly issued the Implementation Opinions on Accelerating the Green and Intelligent Development of Inland Vessels. According to the opinions, vessels powered by green power sources (e.g. LNG, batteries, methanol and hydrogen fuel) would be added to realize the demonstration application in the Yangtze River, the Pearl River, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and the Minjiang River, which will significantly reduce the pollution emissions of inland river vessels, leading to a replicable, scalable and sustainable new mode of operation and development of green intelligent vessel for inland river.
